GIRLS FOOTBALL AT DVFC
We currently have two full girls teams playing Small Sided Football at age groups Under 10 and Under 12. Their teams are known as the Diva's. There are also four girls in the Under 8 age group ready to progress to girls Small Sided Under 10's football next season in the Russell Foster Youth Leagues.
Please read on further to see how things are going:
U12's DIVAs
The longest playing team of Diva's was established in March 2004. Unfortunately they did not have enough players to form a full team that season. The original players of Georgia, Ashleigh, Chloe and Heather. The following year they were joined by Jannah, Rebecca, Jessica C, Jessica S, Annabel and Imogen.
They trained with the U10 girls and then started playing together as a team during the summer of 2004 joining the Russell Foster Youth League for the start of the 2005/06 season.
Considering the girls didn't know each other initially they have got to
know each other well and have played some excellent games thanks to
Georgia who is currently the team's highest goal scorer with
12 goals, closely followed by Annabel with 9 goals.
The team recently had a change of manager when David Shearer agreed to take charge and thanks to David's hard work the girls have gone from strength to strength.
Well done girls!!!!
U10's DIVAs
This is the first year that all the U10 girls have played together. We are doing really well, second in the league at the moment.
Bethany, who plays right midfield, is the Russell Foster Leagues leading
goal scorer with 21 goals in 9 games, closely followed by Sarah,
striker and Jessica , left midfield, which is a great achievement. Our
goal keeper Sarah has had numerous clean sheets which were
helped by our great defence of Hannah S, Anna, Sian
and Hannah F. We have two other midfielders that always give 100% and they are Hannah W and Amy.
The girls didn't know each other until they started to train together back in the summer last year and have just gelled really well, most of them becoming very good friends. Linda Maddox their manager would just like to take the opportunity to say that she is very proud of every single one of them, they have all worked really hard to get where they are, and just to say "keep up the good work girls".
Next Seasons U10's DIVAs for 2008/2009
We already have 5 young girls ready to play Small Sided Football for our club in the Russell Foster League next season. To allow these children to play we require at least another four.
So, we are looking to all of the local schools in and around the community to encourage under 10 girls to consider at least pre season training to see if they wish to compete. Who knows we may have future England Women's Squad players in our community, they must all begin somewhere, why not Deerness Valley Football Club.
